Titre
(W1) Open Source Best Practices
Thématique
The commercial use of open source is hindered by many factors. These include a lack of integration with traditional requirements-driven product development approaches, licensing issues, a clash with existing corporate culture, and the perception that in order to benefit from open source you need to open your source to the outside world. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practioners with experience in open source adoption and value creation from open source, and to document the best practices. Topics include (but are not limited to):
  • Product development front-end: OSS often starts with a specific user need. There is no systematic process by which customer requirements are collected.
  • Licensing: Licenses are a powerful tool for business strategy, but ensuring that your software properly adheres to the licensing terms of open source components you build on can be challenging.
  • Open source adoption: Open source development practices often clash with existing corporate culture. How do we create an environment receptive to the adoption of open source?
  • Internal use of open source development practices: What lessons from open source projects can we apply to the organization of internal projects

Titre (W3) SOA: Challenges and benefits for an effective intra- and inter-enterprise architecture
Thématique SOA brings a new perspective not only to software architecture but also to enterprises as it promotes the use of loosely coupled services to automate intra- and inter-enterprise business processes. However, the adoption of SOA raises several challenges including the scope of services (fine- vs. coarse-grained services) and governance. The workshop aims at bringing together researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and experiences about challenges and potential benefits for an effective intra and inter-enterprise architecture. The list of topics includes (but is not limited to):
  • SOA Concepts
  • Scope of services
  • SOA governance
  • Roadmap for SOA adoption
  • Benefits and pitfalls of SOA
  • Industry offerings
  • Industrial experiences
